955 956 "drag and drop" is still not working in google chrome
958 subj work in Google Chrome Version 36.0.1985.125 (Mac)
959 @Replica If they do this barely no one would visit the site, only a few would be uploading a small number of wallpapers. Anyways, why should they start without walls?
961 only a few would be uploading a small number of wallpapers I doubt that. Starting fresh could be a good thing, like what Replica said. People who like wallbase/wallhaven will upload what they want, then they want. They won't be like "oh, this site only has 12,000 wallpapers? I won't upload then! I need it to be atleast 20,000 otherwise it's not popular enough!"
Way back in the wallbase days before there was a forum, before there were achievements (which is a HORRIBLE idea), people gladly uploaded pictures. Why? They wanted to. Not for the fake internet points. Not to brag. But because they wanted to.
962 tidbit What I would want to upload would be pretty much what wallbase had, but I didn't bother saving any of it on my HDD knowing that all those wallpapers will be uploaded to wallheaven. Furthermore one of the biggest uploaders was 4chan, i.e. the wallpapers from their differently categorized wallpaper imageboards, thus the name of W as a search filter. All those wallpapers would have to get reuploaded but instead of having them instantly available, we would have to wait for different scattered sources to upload them and suffer the possibility of them being partially lost. I just don't see any benefit in doing this, It's not like starting from blank would stop crappy wallpapers from being uploaded and it's not like the crappy wallpapers were intolerable on wallbase. Quite the opposite, the quality was much higher than anywhere else and the site itself provided many tools for searching in a way to get around crappy wallpapers.
I see a possibility of many wallpapers being lost and nothing really gained from doing this. I am here for the easily searchable massive quality wallpaper library after all.
965 pigdog I think an option to download all of favourites would be too much, remember that for you to download a zip file of your favourites wallhaven would need to copy them all to an archive and keep it at least until you download it, multiply it by number of users that would want to do it and it becomes quite resource heavy., therefore I want to offer you an alternative using DownThemAll! addon:
-
Open all of your favourites in tabs(traditional scroll, max number of walls per page).
You can middle click or contol+left click the page number instead of using rmb->open in new tab. 2.Press Ctrl + Shift + F3 and select the links to all walls(you can use the filter "thumb/small/th-"), then add them without starting.
- Select all images in download manager, right click->advanced->export links, save as text file.
- Open the file in notepad and replace the phrase "thumb/small/th" with "full/wallhaven", save the file.
- Go back to Download Manager, delete the links to thumbnails, right click->advanced->import from a file, choose the file you just edited
- Download all walls in full res.
It surely is a roundabout way, but still ~40 times faster than 'open wall, right click, save image as'. What's more, if Wallhaven would provide the direct links to favorites, you could just paste them to any download manager, but a lot of sites prefer not to.
One thing I don't understand: why would anyone need different resolutions of a wallpaper instead of an original sized image? This reminds me of all those shitty pages I find when searching for a better res of some pic that have upscaled and cut verions of it.

966 halogenius: we have a new category layout planned, but we try to keep it tight so it's not too cumbersome to use. How necessary would a mechas subcategory be?
@Replica: the plan is still to import the WB archive, but not all of them - there are lots of images below our resolution threshold that will be removed, and possibly others as we sort through them if they break rules.
We're working on a functional duplicate detector to remove a lot of doubles that there will inevitably be. We have the walls' metadata too, and plan to use "ghost" tags to make them searchable until they're categorised properly.
We might have to import gradually just from the perspective of moderating, but that could still mean starting with hundreds of thousands of walls (we have 1.6m in total, which wasn't even everything).
jewor: see above. We're not adding them before beta.
pigdog, D4oS: we're already having problems with what we assume are scrapers, something hard enough to work around, so probably couldn't afford to offer that kind of option.
As for multiple resolutions, we've been discussing the grouping system and I personally think only the original is needed, but the problem with this is that if a smaller version is added first and someone later adds something bigger or the original, it would have to be manually checked to make sure it's not an upscale, for example.
968 Nice Nice wallpapers!!! I like them :D
969 Search by time, eg 3 days, 1 week... Excellent site!!!
970 Is there an option where you can see how many times a wallpaper has been downloaded?
971 Wallhaven, why don't you guys make a chrome extension for your site. I bet it will become popular and you guys will make it to the top of the chrome app store. There's a crappy extension called "Picky Wallpapers" that made it to the top, so I don't see any reason why you guys can't make it.
972 Looks better thank WB. Nice Work! Greetings from germany
973 i really like the Toplist of Wallbase, do you guys mind moving this function back?
975 Have you thought about adding something like 'The Legacy Of Wallbase' etc. below the logo? It would make it easier for bypassers to realise this is no simple copycat page. Btw really great job so far..
976 It would be really nice if there was a feature allowing users to merge tags. For example, when you search for "forest" there will be two separate tags named forest and #forests I think they should be merged and one the tags should be made an alias of the other.
977 It wuold be nice to have a stats page, maybe also with a ranking of the users, based of total views, # of wallpapers uploaded, total favourites received.
978 I would say no to stats. It's a wallpaper site, not a game for users to upload as much as possible and become number1. Wallbase did that and toward the end of its life those features were being (or planned on) removed. People jut upload tons of low-quality or duplicated images to get points.
Do what you like (such as uploading and tagging) because you like to do it. For the good of the site. Not for some stat-page glory.
980 @Sotuma go into your settings and check "open links in new window"
982 For 'Latest' I could understand. But not for 'Random' since the list is randomly generated every time. Might aswell start from the top. It's almost the same thing. Remembering 1000's of peoples History would be a huge strain, I'd imagine.
983 Latest, random, but where the f is top?
986 Is it possible to have our account and saved images transferred from wallbase.cc? If not I calmly ask....why?
988 @MikeSnsd: there is no ETA. It'll be done when it's done.
AgEnTx19: we're far too busy with core features to think about browser extensions. Other devs are the kind of people who'd do this, once we have an API in place.
Only staff have permission to merge tags, but we've talked about some kind of "request" system users could use to suggest changes to them (WB's "ask staff in a thread and hope they see your post" method wasn't great). It's the kind of thing that would be a mess if any user had access to it - just being able to create tags is a huge moderating job for us. We have tag aliases precisely so that the preferred term can encompass hopefully any search for something. That's why we have the plural rule for now. We've had problems with the staff panel recently so there's a load of tags needing fixing out there.
denghuieraha, tabarnaqdecalisse: we're working on a top list.
Brazzl: a tagline like that would just make it look like more of an imitator, IMO. If a user decides from a glance that it's a simple copycat, there's not much we can do.
Lapse: tidbit pretty much sums up our view about things like stats that can be abused/rankings.
@Sotuma, @magoo95: this happens with any site that uses "infinite" scrolling. The way around it is to either open walls in a new tab (middle mouse button/left and right simultaneously on laptops), or use the traditional option so it's page by page (which is also faster).
brainversation: if we had any control over WB, it wouldn't have died and we wouldn't have made this site. We have many of its walls and their metadata, which is really all we can do externally, but it simply wouldn't be possible to migrate user data from a site we a) don't have access to and b) doesn't exist anymore.
989 What happened to the founder wallbase.cc?
991 cfunk Making a chrome extension will only take about 10 mins to make and $3 to upload it to chrome web store :) Not to mention the amount of new users that will discover this site from chrome web store :D Just check out the links in my second last comment xD
