Washed out thumbnails

Somebody might need to update the library being used to generate thumbnails since it's probably buggy. I've stumbled across a whole lot of Isabel Luxlo wallpapers where the generated thumbnail's colour saturation is significantly lower than the uploaded/original wallpaper itself. Here are just some of the SFW examples. There's many more if you look under her Sketchy/NSFW images too.

I also noticed that the same thing happens when you open an image in Paint versus Windows Photo Viewer.

That sounds like a colour management issue to me. The windows photo viewer supports icc profiles, and so do most web browsers, but ms paint does not.

Is it possible that whvn's thumbnail generator is removing this information, so the thumbnails are being displayed in the wrong colour space?

i just noticed that some thumbnails are rotated and its probably for the same reason. [e8vqvw]

This is probably because it got rotated in Windows Photo Viewer. If you rotate it in Paint and Save it should be fixed.

One shouldn't have to do that though. "Rotating" an image by adding a metadata tag to say it should be displayed rotated, just like adding metadata to say how the colours of the image are to be mapped to a screen's colours, should be a perfectly valid way of rotating an image. Wallhaven's thumbnail generator should just work properly with this information.

parsing exif data just to generate a thumbnail can be very inefficient, though i might be wring here

Yes, I think generating thumbnails doesn't read metadata the same way.

on that topic i wish if we had a simple section under the uploader name to show the exif data of a photograph (if there is any).

here is an example of a website doing so: https://wallhere.com/en/wallpaper/2269870

and yes, the website stole my own photo and gave me 0 credit
