Hi everyone! I’m Shayden, and I created a completely free, open-source app for us.

Browsing Wallhaven in a browser is great, but I always wanted a fast, convenient, standalone desktop app. Something that would let me search for, preview, and set high-resolution wallpapers directly to my desktop with a single click—without cluttering up my "Downloads" folder (though downloading them is still an option).

That’s why I created ywallhaven—a completely free, lightweight, open-source app written in Python (3.13) and Flet.

    # ✨ Key Features

    • ⚡ One-click wallpaper setting: Instantly set any image as your Windows desktop background with a single click.
    • 🔍 Full search and filtering: Filter by categories (General, Anime, People), content levels (SFW, Sketchy, NSFW), search queries, and sorting options.
    • 🔑 Easy API key support: Enter your Wallhaven API key in the settings to access Sketchy/NSFW content and lift rate limits. (Your key is stored exclusively locally in the config.json file and never leaves your computer).
    • 🎨 9 built-in themes + custom JSON support: Includes standard light and dark themes, Midnight, Arctic, and Forest, as well as community favorites like Kanagawa Wave and Kanagawa Lotus (from nvim). You can also add your own themes in JSON format to the themes/ folder (a separate guide is available in that folder and in the GitHub repo)!
    • 📦 Fully portable: A standalone executable. No complex installation wizards—simply unzip and run.
    • 🔄 Built-in auto-updater: Convenient updates via GitHub Releases with integrated SHA-256 integrity checks.
    • 💾 Flexible downloader: Save original files in full resolution to any folder or resize them during download.

    # 🐧 Seeking Contributors (Linux and Android)

Currently, Windows builds are available via CI. Since the interface is built using Flet, cross-platform support for Linux and Android is already on the roadmap. If you are a developer interested in helping with packaging or testing builds for Linux (AppImage/Flatpak) or Android, we welcome your Pull Requests and feedback!

Feel free to test the app, report bugs, or suggest new features in the GitHub Issues section.

I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! 💜
