I've seen someone requesting this feature at least once before, 4 years ago.
I also realize it might require an addition of an embedded feature but I feel like the crop and scale could be made more user friendly overall. Currently I go and calculate what the biggest possible resolution I can get is for 32:9 (my two screens) on a different site.
Both issues could be ameliorated by adding an in-site overlay that lets you select the scale, for instance 16:9, 32:9, 4:3, and possibly custom. And then letting you move the selection over the image to have that part cut out.
That way users don't have to calculate the biggest size for the highest resolution and get to choose what part of the image they want.
