Question about enhancement / upscale with AI

Hello everyone, I just wanted to ask a little question. Sorry if It seems dumb. First of all I want to make clear that I don't like AI used to "create art", mostly because those models are trained mostly with stolen content, personally I don't like the results and I'm tired that every corpo tries to fit AI on their products. But I can see a use if is used as a tool to improve the quality of some images. So my question is: If I use AI to rescale some image to upscale the resolution, do i have to tag it as AI with the tag AI Art? I ask because I don't want to discourage people to think that that character or model have been done with AI.

I noticided that some of the images I uploaded have been tagged with that (AI art): (example:https://wallhaven.cc/w/jex1zy) And it's just a screenshot of the Hades 2 trailer upscaled with the VSR of Nvidia on. I love the game and only wanted to share some of the amazing art created in the trailer. Could be better to create a tag AI upscale? to make clear that it's only the upscale that's AI ? I don't want to look like I used some model to create the image, they are literally screenshots and Supergiant games doesn't use ai

(Edit: Just saw the post that mentions that AI images will be deleted. I didn't even put the tag because I thought that AI refers to art created with AI but I understand if it too much hassle deal with these cases. )

I don’t think so. Upscaling an image isn’t really “AI art” — it’s more like an enhanced version of traditional super-resolution in computer vision, which has been around for years.

Now we just use deep learning or generative AI models to achieve better results, but that doesn’t mean the image itself is AI-generated. As long as the content of the image was originally made by humans (like screenshots or artwork from the game), I’d consider it simple image enhancement, not AI creation.

Maybe having a separate tag like “AI Upscale” would make sense — it clarifies that the tool helped with resolution, not with creating the art.

I agree with this. Maybe such a separate tag would be acceptable. Personally, I see no problem with simply 'upscaling' an existing image to a better resolution / denoising / sharpening it. AI did not create that image. AI did not generate that image. It should be okay, in my eyes. But idk.

It would be different for sure if the AI was entirely responsible for generating the content of the image. But I also simply use an AI 'tool' to upscale / enhance some images to a higher, crisper, clearer quality and resolution. Again, I totally think that should be okay

But also, it depends on how the tool is used. Sometimes, you can 'over sharpen' something and actually make it look worse

Upscaling an image using AI tools can definitely improve its resolution and quality, but as long as the original image is created by humans (like artwork, screenshots, etc.), it’s not entirely AI-generated. It's more of a tool to enhance the image, not create it from scratch.
