    Hey wallhaven community!

As a fan of wallhaven and wanting to practice my Go skills, I created Spice – a new wallpaper manager for Windows, inspired by the Linux tool Variety

Spice sits in your Windows 11 system tray and lets you connect directly to Wallhaven. You can feed it your favorite search queries or specific collections, and it will automatically download and rotate wallpapers to keep your desktop fresh.

It's built with Go and Fyne. For now, it's primarily tested on Windows 11, but macOS and Linux support could potentially be added down the line. A cool feature, thanks to GitHub user muesli, is "smart" cropping. This does a great job fitting wallpapers nicely, even on monitors with unusual aspect ratios (which I happen to use!).

Installation is simple via the provided, fully signed Windows .exe installer.

Wallhaven is a fantastic resource, and I hope Spice makes enjoying it even easier. Please don't hesitate to share your feedback or suggestions here or on the GitHub page!

Just released a new patch version v0.4.1 that address an issue where the nightly image refresh could freeze. I also made the nightly refresh configurable as it only really makes sense if you are using queries with random flag. Enjoy.

Spice updated to v0.4.3 now available on GitHub. Fixed a small bug on the new nightly refresh preference and also made nightly fresh work better with PC sleeping through around the planned refresh time.

More exciting is I have finally tested Spice on a Mac, it works! While Spice was written to be cross platform, I never had a Mac to test it on until now. So stay tuned, I will release it once I create a distributable Mac package.

    IMPORTANT

For those that are using Spice, I dropped a new release to fix the issue that when Spice is set to start with Windows, the system tray menu items are repeated.

This bug was caused by upgrading the underlying application framework Fyne from 2.5.5 to 2.6.0. I have now reverted that change and created a new version v0.4.9.
