Decline of Internet Positivity

I feel like the internet used to be a nice place, where you could meet educated, kind and respectful people. A place that fostered mutual support and positivity.

Now I wonder if I was dreaming, what happened? Where did the good people go?

Off the internet! They are everywhere, but hidden. Now they have formed, visible yet hidden cults. ( Because no one wants good people )

Ask, and it shall be given to you seek, and ye shall find knock, and it shall be opened to you

Internet is a place where you get whatever you ask for, you're probably not asking for right thing. I have good example in my daily life, I do not encounter idiots on the internet everyday and rather it's filled with people I desire to talk to. Whereas, my friend is a troublemaker and trouble seeker and he only encounter stupid things and then tells people how stupid world is. Like seriously you're the one seeking stupid things and then when you find you complain ( what that's all about ).

I surrender. In fact, I surrendered a long time ago. I don’t want to engage in verbal battles with anyone anymore. I just feel nostalgic for a time when people didn’t constantly export their fear, frustration, doubt, insecurity, and sometimes even worse.

You watch a show you love, and you want to learn more about it. But the internet will tell you how bad the show is, how bad your taste is, and how wrong you are for liking it.

Does a game catch your interest, make you want to play? Some drama will make you lose interest before you even try.

You're tired, so you scroll on TikTok or tweet, only for someone to come along and start speaking on your behalf about things you didn’t even know existed.

(Good people, I miss you terribly.)

You know what's good in here? If you good people will subscribe to me, not only your giving me a smile on my face, but you give me positivity despite the reality and hardships in life... simple things makes a big difference and this will create a ripple effect eventually. ☺️

I could say the same about people in real life. Even interacting with strangers when shopping can easily lead to fights these days.

I feel this fatigue so much. Friends and family have found better things to do, so I'm left with co-workers as my only social life. There's literally nothing out there to do anymore with anyone.

The internet in the 2000s used to be a cool place, I spent a ton of time there. Limewire, SoulSeek, Napster, eDonkey and so many other cool p2p programs offered a gateway to new music and movies I'd never heard of before. Message boards were mostly people just chatting-- drama was kept to a minimum.

Now even entertainment has been turned into dull slop-- and there's almost no reason to leave the house. Movies and TV are dead. There's nothing to celebrate, nothing to aspire to. Nothing at all except the next workday. Fuck this soulless society.

I feel like it depends on the crowd you're around. Find some niche discords around a hobby and I can guarantee that you will find reasonably normal people to chill with online. As far as offline goes, it's a tossup depending on where you live, whether it's a bustling city or a quiet suburb etc., so I can't help you there mate.

You've gotta be more proactive in how you find people and information online these days. That's why I stick to atom/rss feeds for a lot of things, discord and a few other social channels for keeping up with certain tech communities, and I mostly ignore the mainstream slop. It keeps my head clear for stuff that actually enriches my life, like books, hobbies, etc.

There is positivity to be had. You just have to be more deliberate about it these days. That's my 50 cents.

I'm afraid nothing has actually changed. You've just grown older and more aware.

I do think it really depends on where you go. The internet used to be seen as the wild west, and some places really were mean and others nice. Take youtube comments for example. That is a place that has not changed.

    Do you guys agree?

People who say the internet is not the real world are wrong.

I always see people saying things like "that person is terminally online" or "the internet is not the real world, go do things in real life" we are at a point in time where the internet is the real world and anyone who says anything else is either extremely misguided or in complete denial.

People do not live in the real world anymore. Everyone is always on their phone which is on the internet. People only go to work so that they have money to pay the internet bill. First thing people do when they get home from work or school is to get on the internet. They immediately go on youtube or watch a show online or do something else online. Nobody lives in the real world.

Everyone is on social media. People only do things in real life so that they can brag to people on their social media. Nobody talks to friends in real life or makes them in real life, they only do it online now. Unless you are a coworker with someone, or you go to school with them in real life, it is literally impossible to be friends with people in real life. People don't want to make new real life friends, they only make friends online.

People date online, people pay their bills online, people order stuff online, you can't even apply for a job or sign up to anything without filling something out online. All day that people are outside in real life they are constantly on their phone and online.

Literally everything you need is online, all the people are online. Nobody does anything in the real world anymore. Especially after covid. Everything you could do in real life is now done online. People even play board games online now instead of being in person. People don't meet up to play games in person, they go online and play with all their friends in an online version of that game.

Nobody exists online anymore. Even all companies are online, they advertise online because they know nobody exists in the real world anymore. Everything in real life gets popular first online. Every time people talk about news, it's not because they heard it first in real life. They heard it online and are relaying it to you in person.

People who say that real life is better than online have no idea what they are talking about. There is no real life or in person anymore. Everything is exclusively online now. Anyone who says there is a difference has no idea what they are talking about. And anyone who says that you should get offline doesn't either. If you get offline then you have no access to anything anymore or anyone anymore.

Family members don't even meet up in person anymore, people just want to have zoom calls or talk to you on Facebook, even if you live in the same city.

There is literally no difference anymore, in fact real life has ceased to exist in favor of the internet. There is no such thing as being terminally online because there is literally nothing anywhere else anymore. It's the other way around. There is almost no more real life anymore because everyone has moved on to the internet.

People saying that the internet is not the real world have no idea what they are talking about, or just don't bother to use their brain enough to notice how things are now.

Citing a reddit thread? Please... Reddit is a censorship heavy cesspool run by the worst people you can imagine.

The internet is best seen as a broadcast platform where people can share their ideas on a mass scale. As for socializing, it is not a healthy substitute for in-person interaction.

It's true, now you watch videos of people in the 80s and 90s actually doing things outside, together, enjoying themselves, and it seems like a foreign thing.

Everyone just hides inside and avoids the outside world , because then someone might look at you or make eye contact.

The solution is actually go out, talk to people , do real things, have real interactions. I do that, I go outside just to be out, I skateboard around, nobody else skateboards anymore though. Especially not in small towns. Why? That would mean going outside.

So, yeah, no one is going to change. It's just going to get worse.

Just try not to be a total recluse and get outside sometimes. And don't become one of those people who wears sunglasses 365 days of the year to avoid anyone looking at you even when it's cloudy.

As for social media: No, it's not 'social'. It's anti-social.

As AI gets more advance, soon people will lose their jobs which will result in more people being inside.

But I do agree with you. People should go outside but unfortunately it will never be the same or at least for now since everyone is so fixated with the internet.

But if anyone wants to be friends, feel free to add me on discord which is my wallhaven username :D
