How you differentiate between a Model and a Pornstar?

When creating a new tag for some new model/pornstar(if there is no tag already) i get confused on where to put it. Under models or pornstars. For example, if there is an NSFW image how you determine if it is a model or pornstar?

    Sad question.

    1. "Models" are people who get photographed for money but that does not specify what they are doing or wearing while that happens. Some models are demonstrating vacuum cleaners. They usually wear clothes for that. Some models actually advertise the cloths they are wearing. "Models" are usually photographed or appear in ads and press events etc.

    2. "Porn stars" are more appropriately referred to as "adult actors/actresses", which already implies they star in movies (special kind of movies, but still) as opposed to photos and ads. Of course there are "porn models" but as far as "models" go they are more of an exception since they present their own bodies rather than some object around themselves. The distinction between "porn star" and "porn model" is pretty vague and probably mostly depends on the medium they are individually known for (actor -> movie, model -> photography) but I believe they rarely do only one of those.

Oh, well I haven't think about creation of new tag... Well I always go for model but that's because all my images are from relatively SFW sources.

Hey, I was actually also wondering about this, and I thought maybe we could use a little more clarification...

As an example would be one of my favourite models, Marianna Merkulova, who is currently categorised as "pornstar": https://alpha.wallhaven.cc/tag/39460

While there are lots of ways to look at this, my idea of "pornstar/porn model" (assuming softcore only, as if it's hardcore then it's obvious) is someone who primarily performs in more explicit porn photoshoots. In her case, as you can see just by the current wallpapers it's 50/50 at best, plenty of them are "SFW/Sketchy" category photos, a fair part of the nude photoshoots could pass for artistic nudes, and to my knowledge occasional softcore porn is the most she's ever done. Therefore, that's definitely much closer to my idea of a "model" than "pornstar".

This is not a matter of life and death obviously :) but I think a misplaced "pornstar" tag can give people the wrong idea what to look for, and it would be cool to clear this up!

EDIT: And reversely, Conny Lior, who's actually done a fair bit of hardcore porn, is listed under Models... https://alpha.wallhaven.cc/tag/3115
