Increase size limit for uploads for a new age

Hello guys,

As we get better and better screens and cameras and cheaper storage disks on servers i think it would be fair to change the upload size limit having in fact that we now have 4k displays.

I can not upload a lot of my wallpapers because of the size limit.

Is there any chance you guys will do it?

an 8k image has 40 mb, imo 4k < 15 or even 20 is acceptable especially for a wallpaper where you don t have to download it every time from the internet

Damn, I don't think I want to know what the file size is for an 8k PNG.

Did a test. The original image i had was a 168 megapixel 640 MB .bmp file. Turning it into a 8k uncompressed png made it 95.9 MB

Saving it as compressed .png made it 14.8 MB.

From the perspective of a database, the limit is probably there to limit the amount of data intake and storage the server needs to take up. Every gig of storage space takes money after all. Not that I wouldnt mind an increase in the limit...

mattilius258 Storage is cheap, bandwidth is the problem. The stats page used to show the total space taken by all the wallpapers and i think it was around 300-400 Gigs. But the amount of people who actually care and upload images that large is so insignificant that i don't think it should be a problem for this site to handle. Unless i'm wrong and suddenly everyone and their mum starts uploading 15MB 4k images.

sannukas0016 All things considered, at the very beginning any active uploaders would. Myself included. For example, I just found a 15200x9500 52.5MB Jpeg that I liked and if I could upload that for others instantly. After some time it might die down though...
