I was getting a weird error for a while, a blank white screen with > Error in exception handler.
as the only content in the source, whenever I tried to view any page of images (Latest, Random, Search, anything) and I've figured out why.
If, under Aspect Ratios, the string ends in a trailing comma or a trailing comma with whitespace(eg: > 1600x900, 1920x1080,
) then that exception handler error happens and kills every list of images page.
Similarly, if the Resolution view filter ends in a trailing comma, then no images are displayed at all, though the page (and site) still functions as it should.
Like I said, I found what was causing the problem, but I just thought I'd let you know so you could look into it.
Having all the tags in plural sounds OK from a consistency standpoint but linguistically it is frustrating and unnatural. For example, if I upload an image of a forest I have to tag it "landscapes, forests", where "landscape, forest" sounds more natural and actually makes more sense (there's only 1 forest in the image).
Perhaps this guideline should be taken away in favor of just using whatever is most natural (let people choose plural or not). It's all arbitrary anyway, for example, there is no "pairs of pants" tag, even though that's a legitimate plural. Might as well just let tags take their natural form, right?
Gandalf when i save the wallpapers have very bad quality i dont know.
how i can download them ?
kalo Apparently we re-save any images to get rid of embedded code. It is possible to put malicious stuff in an image file…
SpaceBacon I agree on the forced plurals. In general it does make sense to enforce the plural form, since we don't need two tags for everything that can appear both as singular and plural (#cat & cats). However some things simply sound weird, particularly those words that usually describe some sort of mass (like water) or a concept. We're probably gonna discuss this some more in the future.
MixmasterDesigns Again, you'll have to be more specific or give an example. Just go to any wallpaper's view, right click on the image (not the thumbnail) and hit 'save as'.
Gandalf Thanks, glad to hear it's something you guys are thinking about :)
MixmasterDesigns It sounds like you aren't opening the wallpaper. Go to the wallpaper page first (e.g. http://alpha.wallhaven.cc/wallpaper/108874) before you try to download the picture.
I have a question about the rules of uploading. Since blatant acts of sex are forbidden and in the examples of what is forbidden is masturbation why is there aloud to be a tag for masturbation? I don't see this as a problem but it is in the rules that it be forbidden therefor either rules should be modified or the images deleted, correct or have i misread?
@老咸鱼: I don't understand the problem. Are you saving the picture to your computer and can't find it?
boob: no, we haven't made any apps and don't have plans to either. There are some unofficial ones out there that use WH.
SpaceBacon: on WB the unofficial rule was "whatever sounds natural", which meant that it came down to whatever the tagger/mod felt like, so pretty much any tag could be argued over. There's enough room for debate already. A wall might only have one forest in it, but the tag is for forests in general. Also, we have loads of users who don't speak English as a first language so they might not know what's natural to a mother tongue speaker. Mass nouns like water get by, so it's not totally unnatural.
Then there's the technical aspect, that because of the current search system, many searches using singular terms wouldn't find those tagged as the plural, but this isn't the case vice versa. That said, we were going to discuss things like this and capitalisation when the whole search system gets replaced.
Opulex: some staff delete tags like those for that reason, but I keep them around in order to find walls breaking the rules if I missed them otherwise, but only when I come across them. If you find any, please report them.
cfunk Okay, will do ^_^
boob Nope, API isn't ready but it is in the works. :D
So happy to see someone picking up the good work!
Now I don't have to scour google for good wallpapers <3 thanks folks!
@Ladit English please.
boob: I think the "restricted" tagging is mainly carrying over the system we know from WB. It is more work and frustration (for staff mostly!) than what you find on something like Twitter, but it makes searching way more effective if it's used properly. Take Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - you could have people tagging it "ttgl", "gurren lagann", misspelt versions... They're all for the same thing, but it means the walls are all over the place.
It would be nice to have a "categories" option on the landing page that just loads all wallpapers with a specific tag (rather than having to search first).
Is there a way for me to change a category for a picture? There's a bunch that don't belong in anime.
KrimzinZV, users do not currently have a way to edit categories. Staff however, are. If you come across walls in the wrong category you can report them for us to take a look at.
Users who continue to upload walls to the wrong categories after being warned will (and have been) banned.
I feel bad about uploading lots of pics and being excited and missing the category, especially when there are different wallpaper types at the same time
DRKsp270: then upload different sets of pics separately so that they end up where they belong.
Glad you guys are reviving this glorious site. I didn't check Wallbase till today, so I didn't hear of it's passing. May haven be blessed with equal glory!
when did you guys restart the uploads? Last time I was here nothing new had been added for a month.
Whenever I get a chance, I try to re-label what is NSFW. I attempt to take a look at this from the perspective, could I have this on my screen at work. Lingerie, g-strings, see-through tops, etc I consider NSFW. I understand it may be perspective, but that's the best way I can think of how to re-rate images when I do. I know it gets easy to get desensitized when seeing these things all the time, but if my ideas are good, try to think of each picture when thinking of NSFW as to that catagory
greech That's how I think it SHOULD work. Thus "Not safe for work". a 97% naked women might not be a nude women, but it's still NSFW. Unless your job is a porn-based job or you're the boss and you have a private office. But still, that's in the minority. Excluding lower legs and arms, if the subject is, lets say 50% skin, it should probably be NSFW.
I wish that we would have an option to download a wallpaper as both a png or a jpeg. I do a lot of photography and photo editing work and I just love how much better a .png looks
greech & tidbit Please consult the rules before changing wallpapers' purity settings. Lingery shots are to be categorized as sketchy. The reason why is, that we have to think about practicality more then about taking the term "nsfw" too literally. Our goal is to offer people a consistent means for filtering wallpapers. That's why the NSFW category is reserved for nude shots, even though some people might want to draw the line a lot earlier. In fact, most of what is in the sketchy category should probably not be on your workplace monitor. Then again, this entire site probably shouldn't be accessed from your workplace as it is hardly gonna be work-related. ;D
SmoothBunz The wallpapers stay in the format they were uploaded in. Converting them afterwards doesn't improve their quality.
The site is looking great! I was distraught when wallbase went down and am super excited to see wallhaven fill the void. Keep up the awesome work!
